Helen’s Fitness

The health and fitness benefits of yoga are becoming well known. These benefits include improved flexibility, stronger muscles, improved posture, stronger joints, greater bone density, fitness gains, improved balance and relaxation.

Helen’s Fitness Yoga

This class incorporates yoga postures from a fitness perspective and aims to improve strength and flexibility using yoga poses and Pilates floor work. The class will enable participants to move more effectively and efficiently, with better posture and self-awareness.

The fitness yoga class differs from traditional yoga as we transition from one posture to another in the standing section. All our postures improve function by building strength and can be adapted to suit all abilities and those with less flexibility. We avoid extreme postures that exceed optimal ranges of motion favour individual strengths and performance. The class is suitable for men and women of all skill and fitness levels.

This class consists of a mobility warm-up and a standing yoga section before moving to the floor to work on core strength and flexibility, finishing with yoga, stretching and relaxation.

The Pilates floor focuses on basic exercises to strengthen the core and improve posture and flexibility.

As an instructor, I offer alternatives and adaptations for the exercises so that all participants can work at their level and progress. Classes are suitable for any age or level of fitness, but if you have specific back or health problems, please consult your doctor before starting the class.

All participants have the option, in the standing sections, to work on a mat in bare feet or use the floor with training shoes. Some yoga mats are available, but please bring your own if you have one.

Helen’s Fitness Pilates

Fitness Pilates uses the original teachings of Joseph Pilates and effective exercise design for today’s lifestyle. The principles of Pilates focus on postural alignment and core control. A more robust “core” and good posture is essential and will strengthen your body against potential injury and prevent and reduce pain.

The Fitness Pilates class offers an alternative to “classic” Pilates and includes a complete workout for the body, helping to increase muscular balance and strength and improve posture. We focus on functional exercises for everyday life, so the class includes a vertical section and floor exercises and stretching.

The class is challenging but safe and designed to increase strength and endurance improve balance and flexibility. The main focus is to increase the strength of the back and core muscles, improve posture mobility and stretch to lengthen tight muscles and correct imbalances.

As an instructor, I offer alternatives and adaptations for the exercises so that all participants can work at their level and progress. Classes are suitable for any age or level of fitness, but if you have specific back or health problems, please consult your doctor before starting the class.

In this class, we will often use equipment as an option to add variety and challenge. The equipment is supplied and includes bands, mini balls, gliders, foam rollers and light weights.
